DESCRIPTION: EPW - Unsigned Swiss, mvt in imitation of American style, 53mm (18S for North American market), low karat (tested, exhibiting slow fade on stone of 10K solution, we suspect case is likely in the 8K gold or below range) multicolor gold drum style original HC with terrific nautical scene to rear featuring an unusual head-on view of an oncoming steamboat paddle wheeler, lighthouse to the left, and sailboat to the right, casemaker's marking in cameo is indistinct due to rub, gold cuvette, white enamel dial, SW-LS, lever escapement, 7J, nickel damascene, s#158. Gross weight of assembled watch 75.3 dwt (117.2 g). An unusual and eye-catching nautical themed case, although of low karat content this case features an attractive deep rose gold hue that very nicely contrasts with its colored details.
CONDITION: Mvt: NR, fully wound, balance will tick weakly if excess pressure is held to crown, overhaul needed, fine cosmetic mvt condition overall, scratches and a small area of abrasion at plate perimeter near case screw position, some fine scratches elsewhere, balance cock screw a replacement of mismatched color; excellent dial with few very small edge nicks, surface dirtiness; hour hand is broken, fine minute and seconds-hand; case is missing its bezel, case front needs a nudge of assistance through the initial portion of its opening range before lift spring takes it the remainder, case front and rear open a small bit wide of 90 degrees (to approximately 100 degrees and 95 degrees, respectively), case shows little wear, shallow crease-type dent to lower-left of rear image, few mild shallow dings to upper perimeter of rear image, good engraving detail; tight bow, crown should be replaced as it has lost its jacket (outer layer) and remaining portion is worn out; crystal and bezel are missing.
